Godzilla VS Steve Aoki for DIM MAK - Collaboration Ahead of Film Release
This year the Godzilla franchise celebrates its 65th anniversary, so it is only fitting that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are releasing ‘Godzilla: King of Monsters’ at the end of this month. It will be the third film in the Godzilla reboot and follows Monarch, a secret scientific organisation, as they struggle to defend themselves from a plethora of monsters - including Godzilla.
In anticipation of the release, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have teamed up with Grammy nominated producer and DJ Steve Aoki and his brand DIM MAK Collection. Aoki launched Dim Mak Collection in 2014 to share his vision and lifestyle with others who shared an affinity for the same punk-skate subcultures Aoki has always been passionate about. The new capsule collection will blend vintage Japanese imagery of Godzilla with the current amplified aesthetic. It includes three different designs available on both t-shirts and hoodies that have now been released online.
Aoki himself has always been a fan of the franchise, revealing ““I have had this huge collector's edition statue of Godzilla for years”. He feels that the franchise perfectly embodies his own origins, honouring both his Japanese heritage and American culture. This makes him the perfect candidate for collaboration as Aoki values and understands Godzilla’s cultural significance as well as having previously successfully worked with large international brands like Converse and Bathing Ape.
Godzilla: King of Monsters is released nationwide on May 31st 2019.
