Iris Van Herpen Chosen to Curate at Dutch Festival
Le Guess Who? is a pioneering festival celebrating global music and diversity. Held in Utrecht, the festival takes over the city centre - amassing an impressive 150 varying performances spread out over theatres, galleries, churches and many more of the cities unique locations.
As well as celebrating unity and diversity, Le Guess Who? Goes a step further and has begun to work alongside the Dutch Council for Refugees, running a scheme where festival goers are encouraged to buy an additional ticket for a refugee in the Netherlands who cannot afford the luxury.
Due to the festival's individuality, its organisers are selective with stage curators to make sure their standards are upheld. Previous curators include the likes of Devendra Banhart and Ty Segall, and this year they have chosen abstract designer Iris Van Herpen for the task. Van Herpen will be working alongside her partner Salvador Breed, and the couple’s stage will feature performances from rapper and performance artist Mykki Blanco as well as a presentation of musician Holly Herndon’s new album PROTO. Alongside these performances, the designer and sound artist have curated an accompanying exhibition featuring embroidery and instillations by James Merry, most known for his work with artist Björk.
